National Day of Prayer
May 5, 2005

First proposed by President Lincoln in 1863, the special day for prayer was approved unanimously by Congress in 1952 and signed into law by President Truman. President Reagan amended the law in 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as the National Day of Prayer.
