A Peek in the Pantry

Not that my pantry is that interesting but Calla Lily showed hers so here we are. It may seem silly to label your pantry shelves but since doing so I have been putting items back where they belong. No more messy pantry with things falling on me.

You are so organized! What an inspiration. :) What do you use the dry erase board for on the wall? Just curious.

If labeling the shelves works, do it! Maybe I should do that, since my kids (well really my teenaged boys) always put things in the wrong place. I'd love to have a pantry!

Headmistress,

That's a good idea. How do you label them?

I use a grease pencil and I write A, B, C, D, etc on shelves and drawers in the fridge, and 1, 2, 3, etc on the shelves and drawers in the door. Then I use that same grease pencil (also known as a china marker) and write on the containers- containers that go on shelf A are marked with A, and so on.

I did not have to do this when the children were little and just dh and I would be getting things in and out of the fridge. But now I have four girls who cook, and one of them in particular is so scatty she will open two jars of mayo on the same day because she can't find the jar she opened yesterday in the fridge.

It helps. But the scatty one doesn't follow the labeling.=(

I've also labeled cupboards and pantry shelves because we moved so much that we had to learn where everything went in a new kitchen every two years or so= labeling helped us. A side benefit of that was that when we have company (which is at least once a week), and the company likes to help in the kitchen, they like the ease of knowing where things go. Several guests have told me how much they appreciate the signs on cupboards. Of course, the signs fall off eventually, like now. And in another six months we'll have to do this all again.

Oh, yes. I also store my spices in alphabetical order. And write my shopping list in order of the shelves at the store. And I don't think of myself as organized, but my kids tell me that I have an "I wish I were an a-type/beaver" personality.=D
