Have you read this book yet? I have a few problems with it. I plan to blog about it next week. I just wrote my marriage testimony this week.

Here are three quotes that bother me.

1. It doesn't take a good man, or even a saved man to have a heavenly marriage. But it does take a woman who is willing to honor God and by being the kind of wife God intended. P. 30

2. Here is her answer to a woman whose husband is having an emotional affair. "God has provided for your husband's complete sanctification and deliverance from temptation through you his wife." With not scripture reference on this page to support. (p.29) Sorry but I think that Christ has something to do with it to. I agree that my satisfying him according to 1 Cor. 7:14 but I am not created for his complete sanctification.

3. And Micheal states, (p. 263) You you will surely wonder, "Why is the will of God for the underling to sufer at the hands of an unjust and perverse authority?" Two reasons are obvious, one of which we have already stated, First, the chain of authority must remain intact, even to the point of allowing some abuse. the other reason is introudced in 1 Pet 2:20 - glory." He doesn't define what "some abuse" here.

Just a few thoughts. I will provide more soon on my blog.

Spunky,

No, I haven't read it yet. I have yet to find a marriage book that I completely agree with. I compare everything I read to scripture, separating the reading's chaff from its grain and freely disregarding the chaff.I look forward to your blog on this book. Those three quotes bother me as well. I plan on ordering it soon.

I agree with you. If they were simple points of disagreement on opinion I would just let it go. But we are not talking about differences of opinion but of doctrine. We are called to teach so that the word of God is not blasphemed.

The idea that you can have a heavenly marriage without Christ being the head of the man is just plain unbiblical. What ever else good that she may state in the book follows from this flawed premise that as long as the woman is willing to honor God and by being the kind of wife that God intended she can have a "heavenly marriage" puts all the weight on the woman and takes Christ and the power of the cross out of the picture.

This is not something I can easily overlook for whatever else good might be in the book.

I see what you mean. That's a shame. I was looking forward to reading the book and learning from it. Is there another marriage book you can recommend?

The Excellent Wife by Martha Pease is probably my best recommendation for a book specifically to women. D James Kennedy new book Save a Marriage Save a Nation is excellent as well.
