Modern Retro Housewives

Here is an interesting essay on being a modern retro housewife I thought ya'll might like.

Hmmm. I think I'm about half a modern retro housewife and half not. Whatever that makes me. I have old fashioned morals and values (and by golly, my daughter will too!) but as I write this, I'm in jeans, a t-shirt and bare feet. But my house is cleaned and it's not even 9 a.m. and dinner will be on the table, um - I mean at the couch while we watch old episodes of 24 - by 6 p.m. I take my job as a housewife very seriously, but I also don't think my tub will get as clean if I'm in heels, hose and a dress...but that's just me. I'm clumsy and distracted like that. Thanks for posting this - good food for thought!

I don't wear heels and hose either - I'm in hot FL and I have to wear good shoes for my back. However, I have found that trying to fix myself up in the morning actually helps me work better. I get a lot more done when I don't feel like I look bummy.

You'll have to share your secrets of how you manage to look good while juggling kids and house. I haven't figured it out yet. I try to get up earlier than the baby, but pretty soon, I find myself setting the alarm for 3:30 a.m. because as soon as I'm awake, she's awake and then my day belongs to her. The past two weeks she's been in this don't-leave-my-sight-or-let-me-out-of-your-arms-or-i'll-die-or-at-least-scream-for-hours-loud-enough-that-you'll-think-i'm-dying phase. very few morning showers have occured due to this. I've been sporting the "Just Left the Delivery Room" look for 7 months now. I do manage a shower most mornings, but that's about all she'll let me do. I get dressed to the background noise of screaming. Somehow, makeup just doesn't seem all that important if it's to be done with that kind of accompaniment.

So how do you manage?

Love the article! I would so much love to be more like Donna Reed, but unfortunately there are times when I'm more like Rosanne Barr! Oy! Well, I have the heart of Donna Reed anyway.

Love, love, love this essay! I don't look like a 50's housewife, but I sure wish I did. My husband would be in heaven!

I did find four linen shifts I've been wearing like uniforms this summer. Simplified my mornings and made me feel so much more put together. Yay for dresses!

Loved this article! I'm not into heels and pantyhose at home, but I do like to get up and dressed to (sensible) shoes every morning. I'd love to be more of a modern retro!

That article is really neat! I liked it! It made me want to go out and buy some nice clothes to wear around the house, not the bummy things that I've been wearing until they fall apart!
