Q & A: Painting Concrete Floors

Q. Suzan said...
Does anyone know of any books that would give ideas or stencils for the concrete floors. I have no imagination or artistic talent.
A. We're not planning to do any faux painting or designs on our floors so I haven't read any books on the subject but there are a number of books on painting concrete floors at Amazon. Anyone else want to chime in? Meredith, is there a book you'd recommend?

My mom & I installed stained concrete floors in the back of our house 2 summers ago, and while we didn't paint designs on top, we did do some "sculpted" patters- before putting down the top layer of floor, we made a pattern made of duct tape-wrapped wire and taped it to the floor, then pulled it up after the floor was dry, and stained the resulting relief pattern a different color than the rest of the floor. My bathroom now has a "sunshine" relief next to the shower; it's pretty.

I just stayed with friends who pulled up their flooring to expose the concrete slab their house is sitting on. They painted it to look like large red tiles with gray grout, and a floral border. It's lovely, really lovely. They have beautiful french doors in their living room, and they live in a temperate climate, so it's like sitting in a garden room.
